[See for English below] In Dordrecht, waar ik woon en werkt, wordt dit jaar 450 jaar Geboorte van Nederland gevierd. Dordrecht stond aan de wieg van wat nu Nederland is. Het startschot werd gegeven met de Eerste Vrije Statenvergadering. Deze werd van 19 tot 23 juli 1572 gehouden in het Hof. Deze locatie is onlangs vernieuwd en heropend. Tijdens deze vergadering werden de eerste stappen gezet richting ons huidige onafhankelijke land. De waarden die toen werden ontwikkeld, ‘vrijheid, verdraagzaamheid, verbondenheid en verscheidenheid’, werden in de eerste helft van de 17e eeuw ontwikkeld (zie mijn boek ‘Rembrandt’s Money’, verkrijgbaar via https://webshop.rembrandthuis.nl/nl/rembrandts-money.html) en inspireren na 450 jaren nog steeds. Zij zouden ook onze toekomst moeten bepalen en museum ‘Hof van Nederland’ draagt daaraan bij. In Dordrecht, where I live and work, the Birth of the Netherlands after 450 years will be celebrated this year. Dordrecht stood at the cradle of what is now the Netherlands. The starting signal was given with the First Free States Assembly. It was held in the ‘Hof’ from 19 to 23 July 1572. During this meeting, the first steps were taken towards our present independent country. The values that were developed then ‘freedom, tolerance, connectedness and diversity’, especially during the first half of the 17th century (see my book ‘Rembrandt’s Money’, still available at https://webshop.rembrandthuis.nl/nl/rembrandts-money.html) still inspire after 450 years. They should also determine our future. The renewed ‘Hof’ museum involves its visitors in the meaning of these freedoms.
